Airstream Classic FAQ

What are the dimensions of an Airstream Classic?

The Airstream Classic comes in three floor plan choices: the 28RB, 30RB, and 33FB. Here are the size specifications for each:

Classic 28RB:

  • Exterior Length: 28 feet 10 inches
  • Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
  • Exterior Height (with A/C): 9 feet 7 inches
  • Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
  • Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches

Classic 30RB:

  • Exterior Length: 31 feet 5 inches
  • Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
  • Exterior Height (with A/C): 9 feet 7 inches
  • Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
  • Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches

Classic 33FB:

  • Exterior Length: 33 feet 3 inches
  • Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
  • Exterior Height (with A/C): 9 feet 7 inches
  • Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
  • Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches

Both the 28RB and 30RB models offer your choice between a queen bed or twin bed setup. The 33FB features a front bedroom layout with a full-width residential-style bathroom at the back of the trailer. When you select twin beds, the center aisle becomes more open, providing extra room to walk through and creating a clear view from front to back. Twin beds measure five inches longer than the queen, making them a great option for taller campers.

How many people does an Airstream Classic sleep?

The Airstream Classic can sleep up to five people. Each of the three floor plans includes:

  • A powered queen bed or twin bed setup in the bedroom
  • A powered convertible dinette
  • A powered lounge sofa with two recliners

The powered bed system allows you to adjust your position for reading, relaxing, or sleeping with easy controls right beside the bed. The dinette transitions from dining table to bed with the push of a button, creating a separate sleeping area for guests. The lounge sofa with dual powered recliners also serves as an extra sleeping spot when you need additional space.

What kind of vehicle do I need to tow an Airstream Classic?

To tow an Airstream Classic safely, you need a vehicle with adequate towing capacity for your selected model. Here are the key weight specifications:

Classic 28RB:

  • Unit Base Weight: 7,650 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 875 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 8,800 pounds

Classic 30RB:

  • Unit Base Weight: 7,725 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 830 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 10,000 pounds

Classic 33FB:

  • Unit Base Weight: 8,425 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 1,150 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 10,000 pounds

Your tow vehicle needs a towing capacity that exceeds the GVWR of your chosen trailer. For the 28RB, look for vehicles rated at 9,000 pounds or higher. For the 30RB and 33FB, you'll want a minimum towing capacity of 10,500 pounds. Most full-size trucks and heavy-duty SUVs can handle these weights comfortably.

A weight distribution hitch system is required for safe towing. Check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify its exact towing capacity. If you have questions, the team at Airstream of New Hampshire can help match your vehicle to the right Classic model.

What is the learning curve for owning an Airstream Classic?

The good news is that the learning curve for owning an Airstream Classic is manageable, even for first-time RV owners. While there's certainly information to learn, most new owners become comfortable within their first few trips.

When you purchase from Airstream of New Hampshire, you'll receive a thorough delivery walkthrough covering all the systems and features. We recommend taking your first trip to a campground within a two or three-hour radius of home. This lets you learn your trailer in a comfortable setting without the pressure of a long journey.

Key things to learn include:

  • Setting up and leveling your trailer
  • Connecting utilities (electric, water, and sewer)
  • Understanding the power system and battery monitoring
  • Operating the MyAirstream Smart Technology app
  • Basic maintenance like checking sealants and tire pressure
  • Winterization and de-winterization procedures

The Classic includes features that make RV life easier, like powered stabilizer jacks, a powered awning, and MyAirstream Smart Technology that lets you monitor and control features from your smartphone. These modern touches reduce the learning curve compared to older RV models.

Airstream provides extensive online resources through Airstream Academy, with videos, articles, and FAQs covering common topics. Plus, every new Airstream includes three years of Coach-Net 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is always just a phone call away.

Most owners say that while the first trip involves some learning, by the second or third outing, everything starts to feel natural. The key is to be patient with yourself and remember that every Airstreamer started exactly where you are now.

Does owning an Airstream Classic make sense living in New Hampshire?

Absolutely! New Hampshire is an excellent state for Airstream ownership, and the Classic is particularly well-suited for New England camping.

Four-Season Camping: New Hampshire offers distinct seasons, each with unique camping opportunities. Spring brings warming temperatures from the 50s to 70s as nature comes alive. Summer provides warm, humid weather with temperatures in the 70s to low 80s, perfect for lake activities and exploring the White Mountains. Fall is especially beautiful, with comfortable temperatures in the 50s to 60s and stunning foliage displays throughout September and October. Many campgrounds stay open year-round, and the Classic's features make it suitable for cooler weather camping in spring and fall.

Outdoor Activities: New Hampshire is home to 23 state park campgrounds, the White Mountain National Forest, and countless outdoor recreation areas. Popular destinations include Franconia Notch State Park, White Lake State Park, Pawtuckaway State Park, and numerous campgrounds throughout the Lakes Region. The state offers hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, beaches, and mountain views. The Classic's 28-foot to 33-foot length is ideal for navigating New Hampshire's campgrounds and state parks.

Equipment Features: The Classic comes standard with 300W solar panels and lithium batteries, allowing you to camp off-grid in New Hampshire's more remote locations. The dual air conditioning with heat pump keeps you comfortable during warm, humid summer months. The 30,000 BTU ducted furnace and enclosed, insulated, heated underbelly provide protection during spring and fall camping when temperatures can drop at night, making shoulder-season camping enjoyable.

Local Convenience: With Airstream of New Hampshire located right in Nashua, you have local service and support whenever you need it. This makes maintenance, repairs, and upgrades convenient throughout your ownership. We understand New England camping conditions and can help prepare your trailer for different seasons.

Storage Considerations: Keep in mind that New Hampshire winters can be harsh, so you'll want to winterize your trailer or find indoor storage during the coldest months if you're not using it. Many Airstream owners in the region either store their trailers at dedicated facilities or keep them covered at home during winter.

The Classic's build quality, including its riveted aluminum shell and quality insulation, makes it well-suited for New England's variable climate. From summer weekend getaways to autumn foliage tours, this Airstream is built for New Hampshire adventures.
