Airstream Trade Wind FAQ

What are the dimensions of an Airstream Trade Wind?

The Airstream Trade Wind is offered in two floor plans: the 23FB and the 25FB. Both travel trailers feature a factory-installed 3-inch lift kit that provides added ground clearance for exploring backcountry roads and remote camping areas.

Trade Wind 23FB:

  • Exterior Length: 23 feet 11 inches
  • Exterior Width: 8 feet
  • Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 9 feet 10.5 inches
  • Interior Width: 7 feet 7 inches
  • Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches

Trade Wind 25FB:

  • Exterior Length: 26 feet 2 inches
  • Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
  • Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 10 feet
  • Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
  • Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches
  • Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches

Both layouts give you the choice of a queen bed or twin beds in the bedroom area. Selecting the twin bed configuration opens up the center aisle, creating more space to move around inside. The factory lift kit delivers improved clearance for exploring New Hampshire's forest service roads and mountain camping locations.

How many people does an Airstream Trade Wind sleep?

The Trade Wind 23FB sleeps up to four people, while the Trade Wind 25FB sleeps up to five people. Both models include:

  • A queen bed (60 inches x 75 inches) or twin beds (34 inches x 80 inches) in the bedroom area
  • A convertible dinette that transforms into additional sleeping space

The 23FB features a U-shaped dinette in the front that converts into a bed for guests. The 25FB offers a more spacious dinette area with room for an extra sleeper. Both configurations provide flexibility whether you're traveling as a couple, with family, or hosting friends during camping trips.

What kind of vehicle do I need to tow an Airstream Trade Wind?

To safely tow a Trade Wind, you need a vehicle with adequate towing capacity. Here are the essential weights:

Trade Wind 23FB:

  • Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 6,300 pounds

Trade Wind 25FB:

  • Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 7,300 pounds

Your tow vehicle should have a towing capacity that exceeds these GVWR numbers. For the 23FB, you'll want at least 7,000 pounds of towing capability. For the 25FB, aim for at least 8,000 pounds or higher. Most mid-size and full-size trucks, SUVs, and some larger crossovers can handle these weights.

You'll also need a weight distribution hitch system for safe towing. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual for its exact towing capacity and requirements. If you're unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, the team at Airstream of New Hampshire can help you determine the best match.

What is the learning curve for owning an Airstream Trade Wind?

The good news is that the learning curve for owning an Airstream Trade Wind is manageable, even for first-time RV owners. While there's definitely information to learn, most new owners become comfortable within their first few trips.

When you purchase from Airstream of New Hampshire, you'll receive a thorough delivery walkthrough covering all the systems and features. We recommend taking your first trip to a campground within a two or three-hour radius of Nashua. This lets you learn your trailer in a comfortable setting without the pressure of a long journey.

Key things to learn include:

  • Setting up and leveling your trailer at the campsite
  • Connecting utilities (electric, water, and sewer hookups)
  • Understanding the power system and battery monitoring
  • Operating the Smart Control Technology app from your phone
  • Basic maintenance like checking sealants and tire pressure
  • Winterization and de-winterization procedures

The Trade Wind includes features that make RV life easier, like four manual heavy-duty stabilizer jacks, a powered hitch jack with light, and Airstream Smart Control Technology that lets you monitor and control features from your smartphone. These modern touches reduce the learning curve compared to older RV models.

Airstream provides extensive online resources through Airstream Academy, with videos, articles, and FAQs covering common topics. Plus, every new Airstream includes three years of Coach-Net 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is always just a phone call away.

Most owners say that while the first trip involves some learning, by the second or third outing, everything starts to feel natural. The key is to be patient with yourself and remember that every Airstreamer started exactly where you are now.

Does owning an Airstream Trade Wind make sense living in New Hampshire?

Absolutely! New Hampshire is an excellent state for Airstream ownership, and the Trade Wind is particularly well-suited for New England camping.

Camping Seasons: New Hampshire offers three strong camping seasons. Spring through fall provides comfortable weather for RV camping, with summers offering warm temperatures perfect for exploring the state's lakes and beaches. Fall camping in New Hampshire is especially beautiful, with stunning foliage displays throughout the White Mountains and Lakes Region. Many campgrounds in New Hampshire stay open year-round, and the Trade Wind's features make it suitable for cooler weather camping.

Outdoor Activities: The state is home to 48 mountains over 4,000 feet, more than 100 waterfalls, and over 4,000 miles of hiking trails. The Trade Wind's compact size is ideal for navigating New Hampshire's campgrounds and state parks. Whether you're exploring the White Mountain National Forest, camping near Lake Winnipesaukee, hiking to mountain huts, or visiting the Seacoast region, the Trade Wind fits perfectly.

Off-Grid Capability: The Trade Wind comes standard with 600 watts of solar panels and a large 810Ah lithium battery bank, allowing you to camp off-grid in New Hampshire's more remote locations. You can run the air conditioner and microwave at the same time without shore power, which is great for warm summer days at the campground.

Equipment Features: The Trade Wind's 30,000 BTU ducted furnace and air conditioning with heat pump keep you comfortable in changing New England weather. The furnace is especially important for spring and fall camping when temperatures can drop at night. The enclosed, insulated, heated underbelly provides protection during spring and fall camping. The 3-inch suspension lift kit and rugged Goodyear Wrangler tires let you explore forest service roads and backcountry camping areas throughout the state.

Local Convenience: With Airstream of New Hampshire located right in Nashua, you have local service and support whenever you need it. This makes maintenance, repairs, and upgrades convenient throughout your ownership.

Storage and Winterization: New Hampshire winters can be harsh, so you'll want to winterize your trailer or find indoor storage during the coldest months if you're not using it. Many Airstream owners in the region either store their trailers at dedicated facilities or keep them covered at home. Proper winterization is important to protect your water system from freezing temperatures. When spring arrives, you'll need to de-winterize before your first camping trip. Our service team can assist with both winterization and de-winterization.

The Trade Wind's build quality, including its riveted aluminum shell and quality insulation, makes it well-suited for New England's variable climate. From summer weekend getaways to autumn foliage tours, this Airstream is built for New Hampshire adventures.
